What the Cloudflare Detector checks

Cloudflare sits in front of millions of sites as a CDN and security proxy. Knowing whether a domain is proxied by Cloudflare, or just using its DNS, explains its performance, its security posture, and why its origin IP is hidden.

Domain Doctor detects Cloudflare from response headers (server: cloudflare, cf-ray), the nameservers, and IP ranges, and tells you whether traffic is proxied (orange-cloud) or DNS-only (grey-cloud).

Questions

Frequently asked

Proxied vs DNS-only, what’s the difference?

A proxied (orange-cloud) record routes traffic through Cloudflare for caching and security and hides your origin IP. A DNS-only (grey-cloud) record just resolves to your server with no proxying.

Why detect Cloudflare?

It explains a site’s CDN, security layer and hidden origin, which is useful for migrations, troubleshooting and competitive research.
